Weight Loss Surgery

We offer a comprehensive approach to weight loss surgery. Before surgical options are considered you will undergo a thorough physical, dietetic and psychological assessment.

If relevant to your condition, sleep studies and/or diabetic/endocrine investigation can be offered. A full aftercare programme is provided by our specialist Bariatric Surgeons and their multidisciplinary teams. You will be guided through your diet and lifestyle management.

The initial consultation will be with the surgeon themselves who will be able to answer any questions you may have as well as work with you to ensure that your expectations are achievable.  Please note a fee will be charged.

Procedures we offer

Our Bariatric surgeons have to be on the specialist register for Bariatric Surgery with the GMC. This will serve to reassure you that you are receiving the best available advice and treatment options specific to your individual needs and requirements. We offer affordable fixed price packages for self funding patients. Find out more information on the procedures we offer below:

Gastric Balloon

First, a diagnostic endoscopy is done to ensure that it is safe to perform the procedure. Once you are mildly sedated and comfortable, the procedure can begin.

The deflated gastric balloon is inserted through the esophagus and into your stomach. A syringe is then used to fill the balloon, with a sterile saline solution, to about the size of a grapefruit. There is no need for any incisions, stitches or scars.

Gastric Band

A gastric band is an inflatable silicone ring which can be used to control the amount of food passing from the stomach into the digestive tract. The operation is carried out through a laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure while you sleep under a general anaesthetic. The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes. When the gastric band is placed around the upper part of the stomach, it creates a small pouch with a small opening, or ‘channel’, to the rest of the stomach. The size of the pouch and the channel both depend upon how much the ring is inflated. The band is adjustable and the more it is inflated the narrower the channel and the more difficult it is for food to pass through. Find out more information.
