Professional Profile
Adam Rosenthal qualified from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 1992 and undertook general Obstetrics and Gynaecology training, working at various hospitals, including St. Mary’s, Queen Charlotte’s, the Hammersmith, and Chelsea and Westminster. In 1999, he completed three years’ research at St. Bartholomew’s, leading to a PhD in the molecular biology of vulval cancer. In 2008, he completed three years’ subspecialty training in gynaecological oncology and minimal access surgery at University College Hospital (UCH).
From 2010-2014, he was Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Senior Lecturer at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital/Barts Cancer Insititute.
He is now a Consultant Gynaecologist at UCH and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London (UCL), where he leads the Colposcopy and cervical screening service. He is also Clinical Lead of the UK Familial Ovarian Cancer Screening Study (UKFOCSS), the world’s largest trial of ovarian cancer screening in women at increased risk of the disease.
He has published extensively on ovarian cancer screening and the molecular biology of gynaecological cancer, in journals including the Lancet, the Journal of Clinical Oncology and the British Journal of Cancer. He has sat on the UK Cancer Genetics Group Steering Committee and is a medical advisor to Ovacome and the Eve Appeal charities.
He is frequently invited to give lectures to the public and fellow professionals at national and international meetings. He is co-applicant on a number of grants from Cancer Research UK, NHS Research and Development, the Eve Appeal and the BUPA Foundation. His clinical interests are laparoscopic and open gynaecological surgery, colposcopy, gynaecological cancer screening, vulval diseases and inherited gynaecological cancers.
