Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Speciality: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Katherine is a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon appointed to Kings College Hospital, a leading teaching hospital and major trauma centre in London. She completed her dental degree at the Royal London Hospital and then returned to study medicine, graduating with distinction in 2004. Following higher surgical training in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery she completed the Intercollegiate Fellowship in Cosmetic and Reconstructive surgery in London. This was followed by training in the management of salivary gland disease with a focus on sialendoscopy and minimally invasive salivary gland surgery in the ENT Department of the University of Erlangen, Germany.
At Kings College Hospital, she leads the multidisciplinary salivary gland service and was the first person in the world to use intracorporeal lithotripsy to break salivary gland stones to avoid invasive surgery. This is an advanced technique that is still not widely available. She is currently one of the few surgeons in the UK that is able to offer minimally invasive salivary gland surgery.
She has special interests in orthognathic and chin surgery as well as facial cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, temporomandibular joint dysfunction and dentoalveolar surgery; treating patients with problems relating to their wisdom teeth and cystic lesions of the jaw. She also performs many non surgical facial cosmetic treatments such as botulinum toxin injections and fillers.
Alongside her clinical practice she teaches on the undergraduate dental degree course at Kings College Hospital and is responsible for training junior surgeons. She also runs a teaching course in minimally invasive salivary surgery for Consultant Surgeons.
