Why is health screening important?
Booking a health screening at Twenty-five Harley Street could be one of the most important steps you take for your health and wellbeing.
Booking a health screening can act as a preventative measure, as well giving you access to the right treatment quickly.
Illnesses and problems can be identified even before a patient starts developing symptoms.
You can stop poor health developing by taking positive action.
What does health screening involve?
Our GP-led health screening programme is the ideal way to keep yourself in the peak of health and stay informed of any risks or difficulties you may be facing. Each health check has a raft of tests which are focussed on each person’s particular needs, according to their age and sex.
After taking a detailed family history, the doctor will fully examine you; blood tests and urine will be analysed. These will be assessed for anaemia, diabetes, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, thyroid function and vitamin D levels.
There will also be a heart check, with ECG and cardiovascular risk score.
Bone health will also be analysed with the bone fracture risk assessment (FRAX) tool, to see if you are at risk of osteoporosis or osteopenia.
Health screening for women
Women can opt for ‘Essential Woman’ which includes a smear test. For women over 40, a smear test, mammogram to check for breast cancer, abdominal and pelvic ultrasound is also included. Blood tests for CA125 and HE4 for ovarian cancer are also run.
Women over 40 also will receive a screening for bowel cancer. Women over 50 will be given all of the usual tests, plus a DEXA scan for bone density and a CT or MRI colonography.
Health screening for men
Men’s health screenings include all of the usual tests including blood and urine analysis and heart and lung checks, in addition to a Well Man check.
A Full Body Composition DEXA is also offered, which can precisely pinpoint regional fat distribution – where fat is located and the amount of fat around the abdomen, including the kind which accumulates around your organs (Visceral Adipose Tissue) - a risk factor for heart disease and diabetes.
Men over 40 also receive a Prostate MRI and bowel cancer screening in the health screening package. Men over 50 have all of that included in their screenings, with the addition of CT or MRI colonography.
Sexual Health Screenings
If you have had unprotected sex and need reassurance, or perhaps you have symptoms which are of concern, our sexual health screenings can provide reassurance.
This screening includes a full GP consultation, a full examination, plus tests for HIV, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, genital warts, Hepatitis B and C, syphilis and herpes, as well as other common infections.
Our doctors are highly experienced and professional. A sexual health screen remains completely private and will not be passed to your NHS GP, unless you specifically request us to inform them.
