Medical heritage at 25 Harley Street
Harley Street has an unparalleled global reputation for medical excellence. Originally built in the late eighteenth century, it was home to many members of the aristocracy as well as politicians and notable figures such as the artist JMW Turner.
By the middle of the nineteenth century, many of the residential buildings had been converted into consulting rooms for medical specialists. This included 25 Harley Street, where Dr Grantley-Dick Read pioneered natural childbirth in the early twentieth century.
